Helping Humanity Proposial
The idea is based off of the fact that there is zero issue with the amount of food in the world. The only problem is with the distribution of the food. In the food industry (where I and many of you may work) there is a lot of wasteful throwing out of food at the end of the night. This food is eatable and is being wasted daily. The idea is to have a route a truck could drive and pick food up from these places and deliver to a central point where it could be used to help supply shelters. For the food that may go slightly bad, you could possible use it to feed animal shelters. This would lower the spending of shelters and cost the restaurants almost nothing.

I think this is a good idea because every restaurant throws out their food at the end of the day and wastes it.
ReplyDeleteI like how you combined your life now, working in a restaurant, and making a difference in our community, maybe even nationally. This idea is great, and it sounds like quite a task!
ReplyDeleteAwesome idea! It's a great way to start taking care of problems in our own communities.
ReplyDeleteDrew,
ReplyDeleteYou are so right when you say that food does get wasted. I remember I had a friend who worked at Panera when I was in high school. At the end of the day, she would bring the leftover food home to eat and give what she didn’t want to friends, which of course I loved! But you are absolutely right, there is so much wasted food!
I am curious how you plan to implement this idea!
You’ve got me thinking now about what other factors might stop restaurants from donating food. You said transportation, but what about time? The FDA? This would be great to evaluate for your research component! I'm looking forward to hear how you progress.
